Hex Head Wood Screws

Hex head wood screws (conforming to GB 102 and DIN 571 standards, commonly known as carriage wood screws or coarse-thread wood screws) are specialized fasteners developed specifically for heavy-duty fastening in wooden structures. Distinguishable from cross-recessed or slotted wood screws, their core feature is the integrated external hex head, which is compatible with wrenches, sockets, and electric impact tools, making them the mainstream choice for heavy-duty woodworking projects.

The head is manufactured through integrated cold-heading to form a precise hexagonal structure with high strength. It features an integrated bearing flange at the base, which increases the pressure-bearing area on the wood and prevents the material from being crushed during tightening. The six-sided gripping structure allows for high-torque fastening, preventing slipping, stripping, or head damage—effectively solving the issue of slot deformation common in standard slotted wood screws when subjected to high force. Equipped with a large-pitch, coarse-thread design and a sharp self-tapping point, the screw provides strong adhesion and firm locking in wood without the need for a matching nut, allowing it to be driven directly into solid or preservative-treated timber.

Available in various materials, including zinc-plated carbon steel, hot-dip galvanized steel, and stainless steel, these screws offer excellent rust and corrosion resistance, making them suitable for damp outdoor environments. They are compatible with open-end wrenches, hex sockets, and electric hex bits, facilitating easy installation, removal, and maintenance. They are widely used in heavy-duty structural connections, such as main beams for log cabins, wooden keels, outdoor boardwalks, fences, solid wood components, and load-bearing timber equipment, offering superior load capacity and durability compared to conventional light-duty wood screws.
